Yesterday I got a message from our neighbor - let's go to the zoo! They have a pass that gets guests in with them for free, so how can you turn down such an offer? It took some quick wrangling & a hat for Mom since the shower thing would have to wait & off we went for fun & adventure.
This was my first time doing a big excursion with the 2 kids & without Dad, but they were amazing! Elise was happy in the stroller the whole time & Caleb raced through the whole zoo without ever whining to be carried. In fact, he mostly raced ahead too much & us girls were left to chase his dust.
There's something about these lions right in the front gate of the zoo - children instinctively know to go climb on them & have their pictures taken no matter how many times they've been there before.
Amber & I were so amazed at our big boys - this fence isn't on the ground, they scaled a rock wall to get this view.
Such a happy girl for the whole trip. I was SO thankful for that.
3 little monkeys checking out the monkeys.
This monkey had big eyebrows that he wiggled at us just like Daddy does. Caleb & I had a good giggle about that. Josh wasn't quite as amused when I told him about it later.
That's most of our group - just missing one toddler & the babies.
Caleb's favorite part of the zoo was the structure - he got SO excited for every bridge (there's a waterfall up there too).
Elise & Caleb looking at the waterfall waiting for everyone else to catch up since they actually looked at the animals & didn't just run ahead to the bridge (what weirdos).
One of the elephants was taking a dirt bath, it was quite impressive.
"Hi elephant, I'm Caleb! My name's Caleb!" He introduced himself that way to many of the animals. It was pretty cute.
Snack time! Nom nom.
The shark hat got a lot of laughs at the zoo. We saw lots of people pointing & smiling at Caleb.
The boys testing their wing-spans. Not as big as the condor (but even Mom isn't that big either).

Now for some funny Caleb things. When Bryan & I were small, he loved to snack on our mom's chapstick (Avon Strawberry to be precise). He'd roll it up, bite it off & encouraged me to do the same. I think I took a little scrape once, but was repulsed & left him to him waxy habit.
It turns out that all these years my mom assumed it was me. I didn't finally clear my name until after Caleb was born.
But what's funny to me is how life comes full circle. Yesterday while driving to the zoo, I pulled out my handy chapstick & found a very obvious tooth mark in the dead center of the stick. Must be something about mischievous little blond boys.
Now for the Funny Thing Caleb Said of the week: While weeding our yard together as a family, Josh & I talked about our upcoming cruise. I asked him what he wanted to do on the ship for the first 2 days while we're waiting to get to a port - swim, explore, go to the shows, "Oh & we'll have to work out so I can eat all that crap." Caleb heard that phrase and said, "I like crap! I like to eat crap. Mmmm."
HA! Oh dear, we'll have to watch that... maybe say 'junk' next time.
