Playtime from Day to Day - Fort, Rainbows, & a Family Picnic

It amazes me how much can change day to day when you stay at home with the kids.  Yesterday I left the kids to their own devices while I worked on dinner downstairs - they were playing just fine & all seemed well. Things got a little too quite, so when I came up to investigate Caleb locked himself & Elise in my bathroom, with the tub running & everything out of the cabinets.  Let me tell you, that was an unpleasant experience for him.  Later, he told me that he wanted to clean my tub for me, which melted my heart a little but still.... grumble grumble.

Today the kids again were left to their own devices, though I was much closer at hand, just putting some clothes away.  To my delight I heard all kinds of sweet sounds coming from Caleb's room so I went to investigate.

I just love when they play together & love on each other.

While Elise slept, Caleb & I discovered something rather special - rainbows on my carpet!

 "Mom, you have rainbow pants!"
"Caleb, you have rainbow HANDS!"   Whoaaaa.
This was amazing & all body parts eventually got passed through the rainbow.
I explained to Caleb how light coming through my window was bouncing off my mirror & the angle created the rainbows on the floor.  To help him understand I blocked the window with the curtain making the light & rainbows disappear.  Then I blocked the mirror with my body & the rainbows disappeared again even though there was still light on the floor. WHOA!  Caleb was pretty amazed & tried it himself.
A physicist in the making.  Though this is as far as my tutelage of him will go on that subject.

I noticed that today was supposed to get to the mid 70's, so I texted Josh about doing something tonight. He suggested a picnic at our park - perfect!  I made a gourmet meal (that I would have made anyway, but still fun to say it was special) & when Dad got home we were off to the park to catch the last few rays of sun for the day.

While Dad readies the picnic, Caleb is caught swiping a roll:

A healthy play on risotto - brown rice cooked with balsamic & broth, then made creamy with super soft onions, garlic, & butternut squash, but still with a little bite from portabella mushrooms, shredded chicken, & peas... plus spinach & dried cranberries for good measure. YUM!
Caleb sat with us for 2 seconds & then was gone playing... next time we picnic we need a cage for him & Elise!  We were chasing them down so much & don't know if we got more than one bite at a time.
As soon as the sun dropped, Texas remembered that it's winter & the air got a bit of a chill.  Daddy tried to keep Elise warm which she loved.
Oh that fang smile.... she has another top tooth growing, but it's gonna be awhile till it catches up with the fangs.  He he, oh well.
